Trying to do my utmost to avoid actual work. Thought I would place my three ICE train sets in the station, first time. One set is very tired, the reason I bought spares. All three do need a grease and oil change.

Hello. Hope all is well.

Fantastic ICE lineup. Impressive setup you have.

You know, when the ICE with the green strip on the locomotive comes out, you and I will need that one too.

Thanks for sharing.

Take good care.

Thank you for the comments.

It was only when I reviewed the photos that I realised the shell of the ICE loco in the foreground was not down properly. Failing Z gauge eyesight! Those with a keen eye may have also noticed than on the same train set the loco at the far end, the pantograph is down. It's lost its spring, just forgotten where it is in storage, more senior issues! Another job on the to do list!

Anyway, a few more photos (85mm f22 & f1.4)

Hello, hope all is well.

There is so much that I liked about your photos, I didn’t notice any issues. Your eyesight seems perfect.

Great layout you have! I like it very much.

I have been seeing the ICE Units with the green stripe in the front on YouTube videos. I suspect we will be seeing these as new models from Marklin at some point in the future. Here’s a sample. I have seen these on ICE 1 also.

The ICE Z Scale are fantastic models and an addiction easy to understand. Mine is the railbus, what an exact opposite to the ICE, go figure.

Thanks again. Take good care.

Dwight

I use a tripod to take photos. If you need the depth of field you don't have any choice. It is easier to use a tripod, then you can move the camera position a touch or move trains in the scene to suit the image. It is often just moving the camera a little bit can improve the image a lot. A tripod slows you down to think about the scene. I often use a sheet of white styrofoam to bounce some light into dark areas.

Operator view. There are 8 tracks in total at the rear. (29mm f11)

A photo with my Canon S90 pocket camera pushed down under the catenary, had to correct perspective a bit. 4 identical stacked photos to reduce camera noise.

Only later noticed a bowed carriage. On the layout it is hard to see so not really an issue.

To make photographing things a bit easier the room is painted grey. Did this years ago for work, a "grey room" for colour correction. It works well with the layout.

Ceiling and wall colours.

Wonderful layout, truly exemplary, also it is very impressive with those ICE trains lined up like that!
Zme, thanks for the video link. It looks like the cars will remain with the red stripes which is nice for us, we could get away with just changing the end cars. Marklin already has this set with the green stripes for HO scale. But looking at their HO cars is no way to predict what will be offered in Z! Also I recently saw pictures of an ICE train sporting a rainbow colored stripe in my Marklin literature, but I'm not home to find it and getting "blocked plug-in" on my Mac which I cannot get around...

You could try a tilt&shift lense. Or connect your DSLR to an 'old' view camera.
Really fun to play with :)

I have a couple of Mamiya RZ67 "door stop" cameras & a 75mm shift lens, but it doesn't tilt. Great lens for architectural work.

60889_061142.jpg

Have a Toyo View 5x4" camera. The problem is I couldn't get the lens board working properly with any worthwhile movement with the wide angle lens needed. Even with a soft bellows it was not possible. Part of the issue is I would have to saw off the DSLR handgrip, actually saw off most of the camera, as it is in the way for mounting. You need to use a recessed board which makes the problem worse. The rear of the large format lenses are completely different to small format lens, they are big and get in the way.

Plan B:

So I knocked up a 316 stainless bracket for greater flexibility to mount the pocket camera on a platform with a bit of stability!

DSC_0336_053005.jpg

I have tapped holes in the Novaflex rails to screw on Manfrotto quick release plates. I can swap the rails, N/S E/W for greater flexibility. Also have a Manfrotto 131DB arm for further reach.

DSC_0299_054827.jpg

Manfrotto 161mk2 tripod and 400 head, about 13kg with rails with height up to about 3 metres, or another 600m with arm vertically. Just need a ladder at hand!

I also use a couple of Mamiya 645 lenses on the Canon from an adaptor I made from parts. The Canon half came off a dead 70-200mm zoom lens I found in a bin. The film plane distance could not have been more perfect. Saved machining, just had to tap some threads to screw the two together.

Hello, hope all is well. Thought you might find this interesting.

I found a place where I “park” my ICE 3, when not in use. Also a string of freight wagons and v260 in the back.

Nice display. The ICE 3 never did it for me. I liked the continuous look of the original. It has it's running issues out of the box, but a bit of wire across the diodes solves that problem. I also took out all the lighting parts to reduce weight. Didn't need the electrical connection the length of the train due to bypassing the diodes.

Older photos taken a decade ago, trees without dust! Train station layout module removed. I was 2 ICE cars short back then to make up three 6 car sets. 7 cars on a set will fit within the platform with station module but 6 cars looks nice.

I love the layout and the ability to run such long trains. Are you able to share with us your layout plan and dimensions? I noticed multiple levels. Are they connected? And is this all analogue or DCC?
Wonderful! Feel free to share more photos or videos!

A couple of years ago I rode one from Brussels to Frankfurt. What surprised me was the very traditional wooden panelled interior - quite at odds with the futuristic exterior!

Cheers
