Some time ago there was a post on here discussing a step ladder that you could lean out across a layout. I cant find it and cant think what to call it on google. Any ideas or alternatives I have an L shaped layout in the corner of a room and problems always seem to arise just out of reach and i am a bit big and old for gymnastics

I think they are called topside creepers.
Look on automotive sites.

Thank you both for your replies - it was that picture of PJ hanging over his layout that I recalled but I would never have thought it was called a topside creeper!. I am not sure I have found a compatible solution. My layout is currently in the dining room and lot of it is in a boxed board on top of our very large dining table which has a structure low down underneath which means I could not get the creeper into place. This morning I was hanging on a step ladder through the front house window leaning across trying to do some track work. The postman came up the drive and couldn't stop giggling. We have been thinking about moving house for some time now - trouble is my wife will admire gardens and en-suites whilst all I look at it the potential for a railway room.
