Good evening all.

Long time ago someone posted a plan and specs for a treadmill, I have searched for it but could not find it. Will appreciate if someone can guide me to it. I have searched and found some on Alibaba but was not sure of their suitability to 3 rail application.

Thank you

Ben

Hello Ben,
Please excuse my ignorance.
For what is a treadmill used on a model railway?

Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

I think the real machines they put locos on to test them were called treadmills or dynamometers. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/580682945678978125/

I thought rolling road was a translation used for Rollendelandstrasse but I see Proses calls them that...

All previous answers are correct as all terms are being used. Dynamometer although looks the same is being used to measure power output.

getting to the OP, if you are looking to get one, ensure that the wheel positions on either side of the track are not independent.

Thank you all and HO C,

Perfectly explained.
I believe the high capacity facility on the real railways (first built for SNCF in Vitry by André Chapelon) were called roller (or stationary) test plants.
Here a purpose-built structure housed rollers on which to run any wheeled locomotive to provide dynamic results based on various sensor outputs.
Generally by the time the Rugby Test Plant was built in England in 1948, the shortened term then used explained everything.

Prior to those times, little sheds were mounted on the front of locomotives within which a testing person could measure outputs while the locomotive was running in service.
Then dynamometer cars were developed to tow behind the engine to gather the same.similar information.
Hence the term stationary test plants to describe a facility as opposed to running tests.

It save a lot of time when adjusting the wheels to match the loco axles.

I have one that demands that the little bearing get adjusted on both sides for every axle. Silly design. When adjusting the bearing on the far side the loco obstructs the view of them making it more error prone and frustrating.
