In the process of thinking my new layout digital flow to make it easier later on. Do you have a specific way to number your address for locos, car with digital function, turnouts and so forth?

I was for example thinking of using a 1xx address for my left handed turnout and 2xx for the right handed.

What do you do to make it simple?

Since I use software to turn the turnouts, I only have to know once what the numbers are and which way red/green throws them, so no I have need for any numbering system.

Because I started my digital journey on the old 6021, I used this address system:

  • Stream locos: actual number, e.g. BR 41 -> address 41, BR 01 -> address 01
  • Electric locos: start with 1 and leave off the last digit, e.g. 111 -> address 11, 140 -> address 14
  • Diesel locos: start with 2 and leave off the last digit, e.g. V200 -> 20, 216 -> 21, 260 -> 26

I don't have a large number of locos, so the above system works for me. Obviously, you'd get problems if you have both a BR 12 steam loco and a 120 electric.

Now I have an MS2, I could obviously just use the full 2 digit (for steam locos) or 3 digit numbers to match the prototype. I only use digital control for driving, not turnouts etc., so I don't have to worry about other addresses.
