Hello,

I have a late 80s and/or early 90s Marklin starter set M track. I’m missing the transformer. Anyone have any idea what model number the transformer would be compatible? There are a few on EBay and I am guessing it’s 6627. It is not a mini set. Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Yes, the 6627 is the larger transfromer that was packed with the larger start sets. It's a powerhouse, and the one that came in mine in 1993. Still works!

6627 is adequate, but you might also consider the more recent model 6646. If you ever plan to run more recent locomotives on your tracks, its design protects their electronic gadgets against power spikes.

I would go with the 6646. There are a number of dealers who are still selling units taken from start sets. It should be perfect for your needs.
You can check with Modellbahn Ott in Boyertown, but it may be cheaper to order online from AJCKids, RJFTrains, Reynaulds, Micro Macro Mundo other other.

The voltage norms changed since the 6627 was put on the market in the late 70s/early 80s. In some circumstances, the household voltage can result in a greater output than the originally designed 16-18VAC and 23V inversion pulse. Your local voltage range originally was between 110 and 120VAC (CAN/USA).
Today, it is typically more standardized between 117 and 120 (single phase 60Hz).
