Hi all,

Was curious about a year ago when a small danish start up company announced they would bring to market a complete new concept for train detection and controlling. Initial it was very sparse with info on their website and must admit I thought it might just be a scam...

Finally they got some news on their website. It looks like an interesting concept and curious what the electronic wizards on our forum makes of it.

Read about here:

Hmm, yet more add-on electronics. I am always somewhat wary of such claims, but it would be interesting to see it in action.

I saw a modler using photocell detection on instagram as well.

The system sounds feasible.

It should be noted that in addition to magnets places around the layout, each loco has to have their tracker added and it needs loco decoders that use back EMF. This means it wont work with older 6080 type decoders at least.

In the 1980s I also thought that getting train-specific location data was important in controlling a layout. I now know that this is not the case. Detection points are sufficient, and very much simpler and cheaper and works with all trains, even if the loco is pushing from the rear. This is because trains can only travel along the rails and so there is only one possible path from any position to the next node.

RailMagic may be interesting to people driving model cars and trucks about, since they are not limited to specific paths.

Hi
The system is apparently in its concept phase and no large forum like Stummi is reporting on the subject.
Although different in technology, the system provides similar results to the Faller Car System digital spacial recognition.
Each loco must receive a "Tracker" to detect magnetic particulars caused by weak magnets installed under the layout.

So in short
- wiring is simplified (no block sections detection)
- each loco must receive a Tracker : what size? Compatible with 3 rails
- no full protection on consists (a lose car= collision)
- detection precision is unknown (with Rocrail and track circuits the stopping precision is around 2 cm)
- start package is 230€
- don't know the size of the Tracker (will it fit even the small locos)
- no present user experience

Basically, it is a start-up concept with no product yet to show and evaluate.
Wait and see
Jean
