Yesterday I bought an ES800 (First version from 1947) . It is missing one gear that engages the second driving axle.
I suspect the other axle will drive it OK, but have not yet tried it.

I am not sure if I should even attempt any repair work as the two bogies at each end do have the crazed look of zinkpest, and I don't want anything to break.

Hi Dale,

If you want to post some photos I'm sure we could help. I've rebuilt several ES 800s ... mostly standard parts except for the frame, which almost always has the worst zincpest. There should be roughly 3 main gears on the ES 800 ... one on each wheel (2) and the one in the middle that engages with the armature....

Hi Paul,

thanks, I'll try and take some pics. I can see Zinkpest 'crazing' on the end bogeys so I did not want to even tug on the chassis to pull the lid off.
The gear that is missing connects the two driven axles.
