Hello,

I am intrigued by both these Swiss models, the 39511 being just announced for 2021.
It is very representative of a stage in electric railway motive power evolution.

I have not studied Swiss railways at all, but I read this class of locomotives was used for both freight and passenger.
It seems to have been used on Gotthard particularly, but also latterly found all over the Swiss system when replaced by modern machines particularly after 1940s.

I wonder when Swiss Railways changed from the brown colouring of the 39510 to the green of the 39511.

Kimball.
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

The data available in the literature is a bit controverse and not very precise. The first factory-new green locos began to appear as early as 1928 (Ae 4/7). The majority of the change from brown to green on existing engines such as the Be 4/6 probably occurred in the 1940's, but the last brown unit (an Ae 3/6 I) saw the change as late as 1956. Thus, as usual in the case of liveries and colors, the change process took a considerable time.

Thank you John and Stefan for the replies.

That sums up the background very well thank you Stefan.
I might purchase the green 39511.

My specialty is on the period 1965-today, with focus on 1968-today.
