A quick question for you knowledgeable folk out there. Did older passengers wagons only have one tail light? If so, on which side? I'm tempted to add a red tail light to to end of carriage 4202. I added interior lighting with Train-Tech lighting (see my earlier posts in Accessories reviews) but thought it would be good to add the red tail light which came with the kit. There's only one and as you can see from the photos it's pretty big. It's easy to attach to the existing lighting and I'll need to drill a hole for the wires but - does it go on the left, the right, the middle, up or down or not at all?

In the old days, neither steam locos nor coaches had red tail lights all the time. The lamps were added when needed. I'd have to check the old EBOs (Eisenbahnbetriebsordnungen) to see whether it had to be two lamps or just one. IIRC one lamp was sufficient under certain conditions.
In era III at daytime, red/white signs were enough during daytime. A lantern that was not lit could be turned by 90° to show such a red/white sign. |
