I have purchased a second-hand colour-light home signal 7188 for my layout, and wired it in as shown in the diagram supplied with it.

While the light operates using the switch lever on the base of the light, it does not respond to the remote switch!

Obviously I am doing something wrong! Can anyone suggest a solution?Cursing

Not necessarily, sometimes the solenoids get a bit sticky too. Then you can wire it correctly but it doesn’t switch properly. Check that you are getting power to the solenoids when you try to to activate them.

I have two of these signals, and to make them work properly I had to clean them up quite carefully, especially the contact surfaces.
