Hello and Happy New Year. I recently obtained an MS (60657) which is powered by the 66367 36VA switched mode power pack and connected to my track via the 60116 digital control box. When I run both of my locomotives simultaneously I seem to intermittently loose track power. I still have my old 6001 42VA transformer. Is it possible to use that as a power booster without blowing out my turnout decoders? Or can I simply use the 6001 in place of the 66367? Thanks.

Hello and Happy new year!

If the screen on the MS2 goes dark and reboots when this occurs then its likely an intermittent short circuit somewhere.
This happened to me when I first set up my MS2 powered layout years ago, when I disconnected the Installation decoders 74462 ("carpet Bahn switch decoders") one at a time, I found that one of them was causing the problem.
Best Regards,
Don

Hello,

We regularly power four loks simultaneously on my son's layout, with his MS2. So, I do not think that lack of current is your problem. I believe Don's suggestion of looking for a short circuit makes sense.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I also think that you can only use the 36VA power supply with the Mobil Station?

AFAIK The first version of the MS (60652) you could use an AC transformer ( eg: 60055) , but subsequent MS2 versions can only use a Maerklin DC SWPS.

Don

The MS 60652 can only be used with DC (but there is a rectifier in the ugly box and the track box).
AFAIK there is a rectifier in the 60112/3 track boxes and it is possible to use them with AC. Not sure if the 60116 still has the rectifier.

If the screen of the MS2 goes blank and it shows the Märklin logo again, then there really is a problem with the power supply.
In case of overload the MS2 should switch into STOP mode without rebooting.
Regards
Tom
