Hi,

I have a 3760 Serie 460 SBB loco which I a would like to add digital funcions (sound).
Looking around I am a little lost on what I need to buy. What decoder (60977, 60979, ?)
Do I also need to change the motor?
I have a MS2.
Any hint will be very appriciated.

Thanks, John

I'm about to convert a 3763 which is essentially the same Loko on the inside (see parts diagram here)

I picked up a Märklin 60977 mSD3 sound decoder and a Märklin 60941 motor kit. It's generally a good idea to upgrade to a newer motor for smoother slow speed operation and in many cases to gain load regulation. It's only a third of the cost of the sound decoder so it's not going to break the bank. While I went with Märklin for the decoder, you can also consider other good options like ESU which have their pros and cons.

Edit: The 60979 motor is specifically for 36000 series Hobby locomotives. you're better off with the 60977.

Giving it a bit more thought, your 3760 should already have a newer 5pole motor meaning it shouldn't need an upgrade. In my case, my motor in my 3763 was dead so I had no choice. If it's still in good running condition you should be fine.

Thanks Roland.
You are correct, even though the diagram shows a 3 pole motor, I looked up the specific part for my 3760 and the reference (386820) is a 5 pole.

Sometimes it is complicated to find accurate information. Is there any website that has all/complete Marklin information of lovos, decoders, wagons, etc?

Good luck with your 3763 conversion. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks again.

Complete? Not that I know of. I use Helmut Kern's website as a fairly reliable source of info for items produced up until the early 2000s. After that point, the Marklin Product Database has just about everything they've produced since 2000.

The conversion went pretty smoothly. The one difference with these SBB lokos vs others is that they have an additional circuit board to control lighting. Instead of running the grey and yellow wires to the front and rear lights, you'll run them to that board. Other than that, it's straightforward. This video shows the conversion of a similar SBB loko which you can use as a reference. Good luck and feel free to post up questions if you're unsure about anything.
