I have 2 new 60949 sound decoders and I am trying to figure what the difference is between it and the newer 60979 decoder. Both seem to do the same and are set for DCC operation. Thanks for any help.

60979 is the new MSD/3 decoder generation, 60949 is the previous generation.

Okay, that being said, what is the main difference. It looks to me that they are basically the same other than the Marklin number. My concern is that I can recode the decoder for a 3 digit number. I have been using the 60979 kits, but have 2 of these left over and want to use them. Any major differences. I am running my layout with Railroad and Co. software and a Inteli box 2.
Thanks

Both old and new decoders support the full DCC address range 1 through 10239 and the full MM address range 1 through 255.

AFAIK you need a specific sound project for each decoder generation if you want to update the sound or create a sound project of your own.
Make sure to use the correct CV list for programming the decoders.

Both decoders have the basic features. Advanced settings will be different.
