I have a problem.
My CS3 react to overload when a locomotive pass over the turnout.
This is first time it happens and never done before.
What is the problem and how do i solve it?
Please...this is NOT short circuit.

cant see how this cant be a short circuit

Hi Goofy
IMO it has to be a short-circuit but with a short duration so it is not identified as such by the CS3 (It says overload on channel 1 of your CS3 which means too high a current).
It seems your are in 2 rails what brand of switch is this?
In this kind of situation, with power on, I move slowly the loco not only lengths wise but also on the side to identify where and how the short-circuit is happening

Cheers
Jean

I did found the problem.
The problem was wrong connect digital to the Tortoise motor in case of frog polarity.
It was short circuit.
But why does CS3 says overload and not short circuit?

because it does not know if it is a short circuit or if the high current is due to too many locos/coaches with lights or any other reason for drawing too much current.

so any level of current that triggers the overload detection is classed as an overload. It would only know it is a short circuit if the voltage went to 0, but that is also dependent on the gauge of wire and length of the electrical circuit to where the short circuit happens. If the resistance between the controller and the short circuit is high enough it still would not identify as a short circuit.

from the point of view of the controller it sees all over current conditions as an overload, and reports as such.

No it is not true.
It does not matter how much current present in short circuit...1 or 3 Amps whatever.
Overload can read out if you can do it.
The problem is to check.
In my CS3 screen it stand overload which should not do it.
It was short circuit and there fore should stand like that.
Not overload...

That is very true, but I suspect that the designers of the CS took the easy (and low cost) way to report the failure.

Any short circuit would overload the unit... ;-)

How would you see if it's a short circuit or a load, if all you could do was to measure the current to 1 or 3 Amps ??

100 meter of 0,25mm copper wire has a resistance of 6,9 Ohm; would you describe that as a short circuit or a load;
if all you could do was to measure the current to 2,9 Amps ??

If you connect ten 24V 10W bulbs to your CS3, it that a short circuit or an overload?

If you want your CS3 to see the difference, it should have a camera and be watching what you're doing LOL

Per.

Cool

For me when the stop bar lights up red then something needs attention. All I need to know.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.
