Dear all, just been watching a new series on channel 5. Britain’s most scenic rail journey. It was a scenic journey by steam to Mallaig behind a br class 5. It’s a wonderful part of Scotland and very beautiful. Apparently a large portion of paying customers are from Japan, America and Germany!! This does not surprise me. But did make me think 🤔
If Marklin fans enjoy mostly a mix of different locomotives running together, such as an br01 Pacific next to a big boy.!why not a British steam locomotive!!
I think Marklin were very surprised about the success of the French 241a? And yes I know it’s likely to sit next to a German loco in real life. But remember, the Netherlands used British war dept 2, 10, 0 until electrification rinded them surplus.
So what about a Black 5 with matching mark 1 British coaches!!
Anyone interested? Yes or know would doBigGrin

Not for me. I would like it if they could do a model of the dutch steam locos. By this I mean a dutch prototype, not just a renumbered german loco, for example the dutch had a loco the pulled the rheingold in the first part of its journey before a german loco took over.

Yes, it would be lovely to see a Dutch steam locomotive. They are really amazing looking machines, lots of brass ect. I’m somewhat surprised that Marklin haven’t done one yet🤔

Absolutely, there is a lot of god candidates.
And if Märklin made a model of the Flying Scotsman, I would be surprised if they didn’t make money on it.

I voted "No" even though I love British trains. Let me explain!

All manufacturers of UK trains use OO or 1:76 scale, whereas Marklin and other Continental brands use HO or 1:87. If Marklin made a British outline train to HO scale you would not be able to combine it with any other UK wagons or coaches, restricting very much how you could use it.

The only way I would consider buying British Marklin trains would be if they produced enough of them to be able to run a few different trains together. This would need at least two passenger locos and two freight locos and enough stock for all four trains. I don't see Marklin making this kind of investment.

Those who mix any kind of train together on their layouts at the same time might well consider a nice model of an A4 like Mallard or an A3 like Flying Scotsman with a rake of teak LNER coaches, but there are many other interesting British locos that unfortunately would not be considered viable for overseas markets. My own preference for UK outline trains is the GWR, with their locos in beautiful dark green and brass domes, and coaches in "chocolate and cream" colours!

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

Hi Dan,

I think with the only previous GB models being the Warship, basically a V200 crudely adapted, and the Hogwarts Castle Hornby / Marklin hybrid, my instinct would be to say a firm NO. The difference in prototype size loading gauge and scale model ratios of OO 1:76 and HO 1:87 do not sit well together, as illustrated by running the Hogwarts Express alongside typical continental stock. True, there are a number of impressive British candidate locos but I think I'll stick with two layouts, OO Hornby and Bachmann, and HO mainly Marklin.
