I was doing some research into roundhouses, and was looking at the triple-roundhouse setup at Würzburg.

I found this screen shot of Google maps from 7 years ago...

and then here's the current one from Google...

3lokschnuppenWurzburg2020.jpeg

The most obvious thing is that the unused roundhouse on the left has been demolished, but the other thing is that a high speed turnout has been built behind the roundhouse on the right, next to the car park, connected to nothing. I guess it has been constructed for some kind of testing purpose?

It is also amazing how long and shallow these turnouts are, when you compare to the size of the roundhouse. Hard to tell from Google, but I guess the turnout is about 50m long, which would make the H0 scale equivalent nearly 60cm. That would be hard to fit!

very interesting. Not how the reddish train on the siding below the leftmost roundhouse is still in the same position.

Just imagine how hard would be to fit in your layout the three turntables and the two roundhouses! Laugh Laugh

Anyway, a very interesting picture. Thanks.

Yes I noticed that too - looks like a diesel loco at each end, V100 or similar - I guess some rolling stock somebody is hoping to restore one day, or some kind of maintenance train?

Okay. Now that is just about weird...although in the interest of "Prototype for Everything" it could fit on a layout...Laugh Cool that lok just never quite ran well, a few cars from the "Why did I buy that" bin... (I have a few that I have not slipped over to ebay...) RollEyes , a free siding, and a bit of 'atmosphere'

Found this - looks like it's a service/maintenance train of some kind...

It looks like the Märklin 26510 (Tunnelrettungszug) https://www.maerklin.de/de/produkte/details/article/26510/

Bingo Jean,

in Wuerzburg is the beginn of Germany's first high speed line to Hannover. I think the next tunnel rescue train is located in Fulda.

More about these rescue trains. Unfortunately only in German.

Found a nice video and some pictures about the taken down "Ringlokschuppen" (roundhouse) of the old "Bahnbetriebswerk" [BW] (railway service depot). Sorry, all written text in German only.
