(Bumping this to a new topic...)

Thanks all for the many replies on DB rolling stock.

Can you take another question? I've been watching Spur 1 videos on Youtube, and have occasionally seen this type of 3 axle packwagen used with umbauwagen, but also used as a last car ("caboose") on a freight train. Is this prototypical, were these 3 axle packwagens used this way?

I would love a 2 axle packwagen like this, but they are REALLY expensive. Sigh.

Thanks!

In Germany trains to not have an "end of train" unit. The Güterzugbegleitwagen (Pwg) usually ran right behind the loco to provide a desk for the conductor to do the paper work.
There are rare pictures that show the Pwg at the end of the train - taken on the return leg of branch-line services.
But typically it is the first car behind the loco.
Since only a desk is needed, a small car will do.

Caboose, Brake Van, or Guard's Van are concepts that were not used in Germany AFAIK.

Tom

HO, many thanks for your reply.

So the longer 3 axle packwagens would never have been used just on a freight train?

Best,

-Richard

Never say never with respect to Deutsche Bahn or Märklin.

If they would have been used for that purpose on a regular basis, they would have gotten a Pwg inscription and we would know about it.
I cannot be sure it never happened, but I am sure it did not happen often.
