Just got a cs3pluss. Software upgrade done today. When i hook it up to my layout with fully digital c tracks, turnouts etc, it makes the whole laoyt starts to buzz.
If i put back my old cs2 it becomes silent again.
Same powerpack, simply swapping between cs3pluss and cs2.

Anyone had the same problem ?

Thanks

I seem to recall Goofy having a problem that sounds similar to this.

Does it sound like this one?

Which CS 2 (date build, software version) do you have?

Just a long shot. If your electrical plugs have two prongs/legs you could try and take the plug out and turn it 180 degrees before plugging it in again.

Yes I have reported this previously of a higher buzzing sound from locomotive decoders and in build turnout decoders while using CS3 instead of CS2.

See post 17 in this thread:

https://www.marklin-user.../t37862-CS3-Known-Issues

I ended up removing some inbuild turnout decoders as it was too noisy for my liking...

Regarding rotating the main plug on your switchmode power pack for CS3 may minimise leakage current and potential for feeling electrical shocks when touching the rails. For more on this topic see:

https://www.marklin-user...l-shock-from-rails/page2

And Goofy post about buzzing noises are here :

https://www.marklin-user...sts/t43025-Humming-sound

Sorry - no real solutions but at least it may give you comfort you are not alone on these observation.

Best Regards
Lasse

Yes it does, not as loud though. Same sound as when a loco shorts a cross or something.

Some numbers:

CS3plus 60216 HW03.04 SW2.0.0(1) Makes buzzing noise
CS2 60214 HW4.33 SW 4.2.9 (0) No noise
Powersupply: 60061, the same one for both.

Thank you :)

You have to return your CS3+ back to the dealer to fix the problem.
With the warranty Märklin repair your CS3+ for free charge.

Thank you Lasse for the well referenced reply. Very good to know so I don't run off and have it swapped out for new one on warranty, only to discover it having the same issue. Hopefully this will be fixed with software updates one day.....
I will just let it buzz then, don't want to mess up my automation by removing turn decoders :)

Klaus,

Maybe this would be a good time to ask for advice from the Märklin digital team, which can be emailed @ digital@marklin.com
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

If using the same power supply for both, matters you never put both CS together. The problem is a ground loop can have many causes. To find the causative reason is not easy.

One reason can be the galvanic isolation. You have one of the first CS 2 (60214). I am not so familiar with these older models, but Maerklin mentiones some functions are only always useable at a certain software update of the CS 2 60215. Perhaps you check your complete layout as your ground is wired and if possible you may buy a new power supply for your CS 3+. Where did you buy your CS 3+? Perhaps the dealer has an advice for you too. The CS 3+ is the one having the galvanic isolation inside. The CS 2 60214 does not have it - as far as I know. Similar with the loudspeakers. The CS 3+ has internal ones, a CS 2 does not - as far as I know. This all can be a reason for this noise.

In every case I would discuss it with Maerklin first, telling them all technical parameters of your equipment and even if they accept to pay for the shipping costs. It could be, Maerklin is sending you another new CS 3+ and this ground loop noise is still there. But I am sure Maerklin is very well aware about this ground loop and will help you.

I had a buzz that resulted from making a contact track and not cutting the connectors between the two rails correctly. One of the ends was barely touching the center rail. It built up heat but was intermittent enough that it didn't cause a shutdown.
