I am doing new construction presently. Some of my buildings are pre-wired with the little incandescent bulbs. I am worried about them burning out and having to access them when everything is permanently in place. Should I just bite the bullet and replace them all with LED lights that will “last forever”?

Unfortunately yes, I would bite the bullet.

yes.

1. Incandescent ones also produce heat that can melt plastic.

2. Use this opportunity to place the lights where the ceilings would be - it produces realistic lights coming out the windows.

see https://cabin-layout.mix...ilding-plastic-kits.html for more lighting tips...

I went for LED's as well.

I feed the 12V strips with approx 7.5V to reduce brighness to realistic level and to increase lifetime.

I do count on infinite life because if they break down I have to break open the roofs....

Both Faller and Brawa have newer LED units for buildings which work well. Viessmann have an over complicated system for lighting individual windows which also works well but has a lot of wiring depending on what you want to light in each building.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

I’m using these LED’s:

LED’s tend to have a very narrow light angle. The Brawa type of LED’s have an add-on lense, that fix this, spreading the light as with traditional bulbs.
