Dear forum members. I would like to ask a question about an msd decoder. I was trying to update an msd 6094x retrofit decoder with a sound project with Central Station 2. I went to the decoder update menu, checked the snd and fds files and start the update process. I know that this process can take up to 45 minutes to complete, regarding how big the sound project is.
Well about two or three minutes later the cs2 returned an error in German. From google translate I understood that something went wrong.
From that moment on the decoder functions normally except from sounds. All functions work, motor moves but I have no sounds.
If I try to load an new sound project, the update does not begin. What seems odd is that the sound firmware version is 0.0.
In the CS2 I see that there are two sound firmwares for msd decoders, ver 1.12 and 1.32. If I try to load either of them The process begins but stucks at writing block #59 and after about a minute I am given an error again in German (although I have in english the GUI of the CS2.
Is there anything I can do to unbrick the decoder?

I tried with Decoder programming 60971 but is only for mSD/3 decoders. Do I need the older programmer to upload the firmware to the decoder?
Can I force a sound firmware update without the CS2? Are there any other firmware versions to download and try?

Thanks for your time.

Perhaps this recent thread helps a bit.

In the video below you can see what is happening.

After a minute or two this message appears.

Do you think Marklin is able to repair the decoder at a resonable cost?

Hi

Not sure but it seems you have not loaded the "sound flash" (the last of the four lines.
IMO they work in pairs: the first 2 relate to the decoder driver and particulars (speed, loco type, motor type,...)
The third one is the Sound Fw (Fachwerk? or sound driver) and its particulars (which sound for which fonction, which loudness)
The fourth one is about the sound files (running sound; brake sound, etc
So the error message is about your files not being correct. "Programming not OK. Do you want to try again?"
One simple test is to reset the decoder (RST button) and in the end all factory-loaded sound will be there

I programmed all my MSD2 and MSD3 directly on the CS2 and a Memory stick loaded with the needed files.
There is on the Stummi forum a post on how to create sounds and program sound decoders
Here it is: https://www.stummiforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=86482

Of course I may be wrong
Cheers

Jean
