Hi,

I'd like to make a double header of 2 BR 18-4 steam loc.

Unfortunately, BR 18-4 does not have coupler at the loc head, so I have to add one on the 2nd loc in order to couple it to the tender of the 1st loc.

Has anybody ever implemented such a thing? What kind of coupler should I use?

Thanks,

Fred

Hi Fred,
Because this is the only time you want to couple the 18-4 from the front, I would try something temporary.
Would a piece (or a loop) of bent wire achieve what you want.
It might be able to hook under the front, maybe off the leading bogie frame. Hooking the wire onto the rear coupler of the other engine should be no problem.

Hi Fred
Mechanically, the best place to install a coupling rod is on the front bogie fixing screw but here it is not possible see here the explosion diagram of your locoBR 18-4 Märklin
Because there will be unavoidable constrains between the 2 locos, it has to be strong /sturdy
Because BR 18 is a very nice machine it is much better (IMO) to do only temporary changes
So the easyest place to fix a coupling hook is on the front bogie (metal frame) but I have serious doubts about the derailment risks in curves
Bonne chance
Jean
