I have four sections of M Track, all labelled underneath as 5107.

Two sections have plug inputs on the side of them. Two do not have plug inputs!

I am trying to incorporate a level crossing into my layout, and the manual seems to show that I need four 5107 sections (for double tracks).

Can anyone tell me if these 5107 sections are interchangeable? i.e. can the two different types be used in the same way?

The one on the LEFT is the one supplied form the last M-track railroad crossing package that was in the catalogue; 2 pieces. To go on each side of the road-crossing section.
If you buy an "expansion set" for the crossing you will get 2 more plus the road-crossing section.

The one on the RIGHT can be used the same way; It serves exactly the same purpose, BUT without the additional connections for cabling. They are interchangable, depending on if your RR-X-ing needs to connect additional cables to the tracks. (Mine doesnt)

The tracks shown here are all Märklin 5145 ones, they are manufactured from ordinary 5107 pieces, thats why they bear that number, 5107 is just a ordinary straigt 90mm section, one half in length of the standars 180mm piece.
