Hi.
I'm new here and have a question about using Marklin locomotives in Canada.
My father in Germany gave me all his Marklin equipment so I bring it over at my last visit. Of course, I left the 220Volt - 50Hz transformer in Germany because they are useless in Canada.
I know I can get a new 120Volt transformer but my question is, do the Marklin locomotives run with 60Hz? Because it is an AC voltage.

Maerklin transformers for North America work with 120V 60Hz, so you should have no problem. Last time I checked, there were a few dealers who had good prices on the 6646 transformer.
The trains will operate normally, unlike in Australia and NZ where they run in the opposite direction (No, that's the toilets Flapper).

Everything should operate as normal. There are a few of us in the Montreal area and even more in the GTA.
There are no official Maerklin dealers in Montreal. The closest ones are in Toronto (John's Photo and Westend Trains). I have been doing a lot of mail order with Eurorailhobbies in BC.
Toronto is still a 4 hour drive from Hawkesbury, so you will probably end up going the internet/mail order route like I did.

What track are you using? M, K or C? Are you running analogue or digital?

If you need any assistance, send me a PM.

Regards

Mike C

Hi Ralf,
if you want to use your dad's old transformer, you can do it with something like this:

Don't know what the prices for 110V Marklintransformers in Canada are, but that is a very cheap solution and you can use the original equipment.
Wish everybody a lot of fun.

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.
