My trains are much old Marklin locos, or to 3-rail converted Fleischmann , Lima, Trix etc locos.
They have nearly all a multi protocol decoder from Tams, ESU etc. Most of the Marklin locos have the original motor, AC. I don't want to get rid of that.
I was controlling them with a Marklin 6021 but not very happy with the quality of driving.
Then i noticed that new Marklin and Trix locos are multiprotocol either.
I started to look around or a DCC system and found the Digikeys DR5000.
In combination with the free "Z21 mobile" app from Roco-Fleischmann on a Android telephone you can store and drive your locos.
I installed the DR5000 on my marklin layout and the app on my telephone. The DR5000 produces a WIFI network, you log in with your phone.
Then you store the locos on the app. It's very easy.
I was surprised that driving with DCC - with 128 driving steps! - was much more beautiful than with the old Marklin 6021.
Also the original lights from old locos don't blink anymore with DCC.
