Maybe I impress easily but I thought DCC-style sounds using a decoder on a DC loco blew my socks off.

I saw this video

I have no hardware whatsoever to program DCC decoders, I just want something I can insert into my Marklin 1960s era DC loco and have it play sounds like the above video. Here's the inside of mine.

I found this Zimo 6 pin sound Decoder on ebay, it has some preloaded sounds how can I make this work with my loco?

Is it a DC loco ? Looks like a regular Märklin AC with field coil and reversing relay

OMG Blushing Blink

Apologies, it was late. Sorry I meant AC. and yes that video DID say DC and I completely missed that. I don't suppose any of these decoders would work on AC?

The best way is to convert the AC motor to DC by replacing the field coil with a permanent magnet. There are kits for this, other members are more experienced about this conversion on such old machines.
I'm just wondering if it's worth doing, old engines are mechanically noisy, the decoder sound is disturbed by gear noise.

Thank for the advice, I ended up purchasing a LokSound 5 that works beautifully with AC and enlisted the help of a friend to wire it all together. The results were spectacular. check out the video below and put your sound on! More work still has to be done but it should be ready in about a month I'm told.

Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Hi Jeff

Bravo for the nice conversion. I like this 3005 a lot.
I converted a number of my "historic" locos (made between 1950 and 1965) with sound decoders.
Because I run a number of sound locos I needed to adjust the sound level to lower level. Oldies usually make quite a lot of mechanical noise which spoils the sound quality I stopped doing so.
Also the cost of sound decoders plus the DC motor conversion does not compete with a recent Loco with more details, silent running and loads of new features.
Cheers

Jean
