Hi,

I've put a non-Maerklin train on the programming track (manual doesn't say how to switch to programming mode), and values show up and seem correct, but I don't have a save button as shown in the manual. Also, the info screen says it's Mfx, but when I try to exit it says there are un-written values that will be discarded.

What is going wrong?

Thanks

Hi

You don't provide much information: Non-marklin train but MFX-capable what is your controller?
If it registers as an MFX loco, with a CS2 for instance you have to push the key with a down-arrow and a loco symbol.
Cheers

Hi,

As per topic it's a CS3. Oddly, it seems to have taken what I have put in, despite the lack of save button.

I think it's an ESU controller, but not sure. Surprised it says it's Mfx.

This CS3 is not as easy to get going as I thought...

All right, if you have a CS 3 as a controller, why do you think it is an ESU controller?

What I know and see more and more often, manufacturers of loco decoders now produce their decoders with the mfx track format too.

ESU is marking its decoder with an M4 instead of mfx. PIKO is writing mfx capable, and so on. But it stands nothing in your manual? I doubt it, if you got one. If not, please ask Google for a manual in PDF by inserting the producers name and the article/decoder name, articl/decoders number or whatever is printed on the loco or decoder itself. I always got back a description of this decoder. But I can tell you, I have very often problems to read this manual. Often it is written in such small letters that even a normal reading-glass was not a big help to me.

Don't you think this is already a part of the answer? A Märklin product is made for Märklin products. Why and how shall it be able to read a foreign product specifications?
CS 3 is a controller system from Märklin - not a central station.

ESU is marking its decoder with an M4 instead of mfx.
ESU was the first producer of mfx decoders and for several years they were the only producer of mfx decoders (and Märklin at that time was a reseller for ESU mfx decoders).
For trademark reasons they changed the name from mfx to M4. M4 is mfx with a different label.
