I don't see many "Z" Scale starter sets......any suggestions?
I see several on E Bay but have been burned there enough to not go back.
Thank you in advance. Tommy

The starter set selection has been kind of poor from Marklin in recent years. One of the nicest for the $$ if you like the European style trains was the set for the 30th aniversery of the Mini Club. That was a really nice starter set with lots of track, nice long train and transformer. Kind of hard to find now. Ebay probably has the best selection, make sure to watch ebayde(German Ebay) as many more sets are there and many of the sellers will ship to the USA if asked prior to purchase. Good luck! Mike |

I started with this model: https://zscalehobo.com/marklin/81701.htmlIt will give you everything you need to build an oval track, the adapter is already 110v so it's plug and play on American wall outlets. It's a good value, the locomotive is a 5 pole motor but does not have lights. Good luck!

Doesn't have a whole lot, but what it does have was 95% usable for my planned layout. It also wasn't very expensive for what you get. |

These were the Z Gauge starter sets in the Marklin 2018 Catalog. I have an 81870 set.

check out zscalehobo.com he has starter sets in stock I believe. In any event he happily accepts phone calls which is a small wonder these days. He can put together a "starter set" for you over the phone. It is not uncommon to use different manufacturers from the beginning for track and train. I went with an Austrian Marklin train set of 5 cars and 5 pole motor steam engine paired with Rokuhan track and controller. The Rokuhan track system is not the ultimate in realism but you can run your trains with it on any flat surface reliably and the controllers can be battery powered.
