Märklin HO 448/1 Bogenlampe Guß

Most of them are removed from layouts, their beige colour more or less damaged.
If repainted, what is the best hobby colour, primer etc.?
The bulbs look milk white matt but cannot find that variant of 600100.
Paint strippers and primers are sold in huge cans.
Is it worth trying to repaint them or leave them as they are - I personally prefer original colour unless really badly lost.
Any suggestions and opinions are highly appreciated.

Hi,

Leave them as they are. A damaged original colour is a original colour. You will not get something better.
The white bulbs were 600230. They are out of stock since decades. Today you can buy 600100 and white nail-enamel. Just dip the bulb in the nail-enamel and let it dry.

Thanks a lot. That`s exactly what I suspected. As a keen antiquity collector I am aware of the difference between conservation and over - restoration.when much of the original is lost.Repairing an engine with spare parts is acceptable but messing with original colour can just ruin the piece.
Thanks for the bulbs, too.

Thank you for the link.
It seems bulbs are not made of milk white glass but painted white, as can be seen in the bulb on the left side.
If so, nail polish is better idea.

Also, just jumping in "where angels..." and all that, but they are even almost prototypical:

Just in case you are interested here is the trick.

In the early 1950 there were frosted lamps but there are not available any more but it is very easy to make them:
* use a regular bulb and a very fine abrasive paper for car bodywork (grade 1000 at least)
* rub the glass portion of the bulb gently and you will obtain matte finish as with the old bulbs

Cheers
Jean
