HI,

I have a 30301 that staretd to run erratically, I took the body off and was tipping the chassis side to side to have a look at it, and this gear shaft fell out.
I put it back in, but the fit is loose. The hole it fits into is much larger than the shaft. So the gear wobbles.
This cant be good....?

Could you use Loctite?

UPDATE: This is a MHI loco with a five year warranty. If you purchased it after 3 March 2014, then you might be able to send it back to Marklin for warranty.. The trouble is that I can't find the date when the five year warranty on MHI and Insider Items started to be offered by Marklin.

HI,

I bought this loco from an Ebayer, so likely no warranty applies. Also, it was a 2014 new item, so it has been 5 years.
I fashioned a quick fix by inserting a tiny coil of solder behind the shaft and covered the hole with duct tape. That appears to be holding the shaft in place, for now untill I can think of a better fix. Loco is running smooth and quiet again.

Hi! Not normal of course!
A matter of assembly tolerance and not unheard of.
Many Märklin locos have that type of assembly.
The part of that axles that fits in the chassis has a larger diameter than the part that carries the gear.
You did the right thing with your fix, although it doesn't really fix the root cause.
The way I was always fixing these was to knurl the larger diameter part, then re-insert in the chassis with a press.
Cheers
