Good morning,

My double mail line switches into a single line and the placement of the turnouts dictates how the traffic can proceed through this area. I'm not sure which turnout sequence is correct can someone who knows please help?

Please note the pink highlighter is the main line, turnouts are yellow highlighter.

This area has been made for the ore mine.

Thank you.

PLAN B :

Here are some pictures of what I have done. As stated not sure if the placement of the turnouts are correct.

I'm by all means not an ore mine or railroad engineer/specialist.

In my opinion the version I've quoted seems to make the most sense for traffic flow in either direction.

Cheers,

Prototypical examples of a mine adjacent to a two-track mainline tend to be rare. There used to be the “Zeche Gottessegen“ mining coal and ore directly at the Dortmund-Löttringhausen station in the Ruhr area on the the double-track Dortmund - Düsseldorf line. Below a link to a German website containing a map and an aerial view of RR tracks:
https://www.bergbauhisto...rchiv/zeche-gottessegen/

Then there is the former Piesberg coal mine which connected via an industrial spur to the double-track line at the Osnabrück-Eversburg station. On Google maps you can still see tracks and turnouts.

Good morning Alsterstreek,

Thank you very much for the prototypical example of the mines.

The track plan; Lageplan der Zeche Gottessegen 1909 seems very helpful! I printed the track plan and after studying it thoroughly I noticed that I’m actually using the correct amount of turnouts! The difference between the prototype and my plan is the distance between the turnouts. Seems that my plan is one third as long. If I remove the yellow highlighted turnouts then the shunting loco will have to travel 16 feet/4.877 metres which is too long.

So I’m back to choosing; Plan A or Plan B

Which would you pick?

Ooohf, I hoped to be of the hook by just pointing at the prototype...
:o)

Well, it depends on the location of the mining structures. Which track is for empties and which one for loads? Where are empties coming from and where are loads going to? Is there a the switcher pocket?

BTW, on the 1909 map, the double-track main line is to the left while the single track disappearing und the street on the lower right is actually a branch line.

The only hooks you might be on is the name plate for the mine, “Alsterstreek Stasjon” BigGrin

The change I would make is actually at the top of the plan. The way the plan is now, the outer track can not access the inner siding when you are going clockwise. I would move the switch on the top right that goes from the outer track to the pink mainline back prior to the switch that goes to the siding.

Given your main line setting, how about something completely different: open top empty/load operations - see attachment below?

Hi Jon,

Like this?

Yes - like that. Except you now don’t need the next switch. I really enjoy following the progress.

Hi Alsterstreek and Jon,

I think we have it! BigGrin

This seems to work both clockwise and counter clockwise as a train can get to any part of the mine!

I'll tell you, I'm feeling the love of C track! Just click it together or click it apart, make as many changes as needed and then it's done.ThumpUp
