Having to replace the 280 Transformer. I have seen the warnings and I won’t even plug it in. So what Transformer can I go get for my wife’s vintage trains that is as safe and as modern as possible. Operating in the US.

Hi

In the available Märklin items you have the 6646: 110V, 32 VA, UL Listed transformer.
It will drive your Marklin trains even the oldest.

Note: in the very old trains, 20V AC was used to drive the solenoids in Points, etc. The available 16 VAC (accessory yellow outlet)may be a little weak but this has to do with safety regulations for children.
Cheers

Jean
