Howdy,

Joined the forum after browsing around for quite a long time. Already introduced myself in another thread but thought I'd share some of the trouble I've been getting myself into lately Blushing

I came across a collector on eBay who had nearly everything. Boy were my eyes wide when I saw these trains. Description said everything was 100% original except for a few replicas. Boxes and everything.... Have some photos below to share. Going to cost me probably around 40.000 EUR in total but I hope too buy nearly everything he's got.

Kind Regards,

Brian

first up a passenger coach with the rare eagle. I don't know why the holes are all chewed up like that. this is a very rare coach. it's a great little gem!

Hi Brian

All this looks fantastic but you may need external / specialist help to decide if all this is authentic / not fake / operation ready / zink pest free, etc.
I believe the nazi Eagle was embossed / not casted. Also a significant number of LNER and other British-looking steamers are in fact redecorated from the standard DRG machines.
Number of cast wheels on passenger cars made during the war and just after are simply disintegrating (Zink Pest) and so are early models of the CCS800

So enthousiam is better when combined with caution.
Cheers

Jean

Hi Brian,

I agree with Jean on this one. The LMS and LNER locos are commonly repainted and I believe that is the case here. All of these LMS and LNER locos appear to be repainted, except for perhaps the last HR 700 LMS loco. You can tell because the lacquer is not right as Marklin originally did it. The frames are also all clearly repainted. These replica LMS and LNER locos showed up on eBay DE from a professional artist for some years. The 351 F coach also looks like a replica - typically the fake ones have round holes and original has square holes. This one has square holes but they are cut out with little precision - Marklin would never have done this. It's difficult to say whether the eagle emblem is original or not. One can only compare with photos of an original.

The TW 800 appears to have undergone significant restoration - wheels, wires, pick-up shoes, frame either replaced or repainted. And the box is a replica - even the "8" on the label appears upside down?

Finally what you have also shown is an R 700 (S)LNER which in my opinion is a well done replica. The stamping is not accurate, and appears to be have been either painted or done by hand with a rubber stamp. You can tell because the thickness of the lettering is not always even or straight. As a final indicator the wear on the gold "stamp" is not consistent with the condition of the tender. This is rather speculative, but just my opinion.

Overall some great pieces, they do have value but not as originals with provenance and original boxes. But why not post here before buying next time?

Best,

Paul

my Kolls show r 800 in black with no LNER on tender and Brians lock is missing the screws for brushes and on r 800 LMS the letters on tender are in wrong place. Eddie

I feel like I should suggest you to refrain from purchasing any of these stuff...
Ep. III (My layout is set in 1962).
I collect mainly DSB, DB and SBB but I'm quite... Open minded.
I'm quite a big collector of NOHAB lok :)

Hello Marklin community,

I am pleased to share an update and thank you for the helpful commentary. Luckily I had not paid the wire transfer for my purchases yet and so I cancel the order with the seller. I was offered more pieces as "family heirlooms" but determine them to be high quality reproductions. For this I buy nothing. Another collector in Germany advise me not to buy these, and only buy top quality original.

I already found some new locos one she is a real beauty with the original box and instruction sheet even the inspection tag too.

Kind Regards

Brian

Brian, we all have been there getting exiting until you find out the locos aren't as original as it seems.
I'm glad you didn't pay for the trains and are able to walk awayfrom it, its a bit like fake paintings.
