Hello, I need help identifying a blue TEN passenger wagon model number. I am not able to find this model in the catalogs that I have access to. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

This is a PRIMEX #4010. Made between 1985 and 1989.

Markus,

Without the roof, how can you tell whether this is a Primex 4010 or Maerklin 4130?

The 4130 had a blue roof. The Primex 4010 had an ivory roof.

I'm leaning towards the 4130 for the following reasons:

1) the model in the photo is equipped with trucks with mounted buffers
2) The model in the photo has red taillights painted on the coach ends

AFAIR, the Primex version was a basic model that came with trucks that did not include the buffers
nor did the Primex version have the red lights as painted details on the coach ends.

Both the Maerklin and Primex Models bore the Maerklin, Made in Germany markings on the bottom.

You may be able to obtain the roof part from Maerklin as it was used in the retooled 0766-04 DSG model. The only issue is that the roof has a different colour.
You could check with APC-Adams or Ritter Restaurationen, but by my calculation, it might just be cheaper to source a complete model on ebay for 15-30 EUR.

The positioning of the TEN lettering on the sides would also lead to the same conclusion.

It is Marklin 4130 - 'TEN' letting on left side and 'TEN' right on other side.

Primex - 'TEN' left on both side of 4010.

First image marklin version and 2nd image Primex. Note see the red circle.

Thanks so much for the help. Would anyone have an idea of typical consist arrangements for theses sleeper car trains?

The 42999 Set (2018) is a good sample of how to put together a night train.
The one that I have is a little different. It is made up of DB and FS 24cm UIC-X coaches along with the 4130 sleeper and 4068 SBB Restaurant coach.
Those wishing to model the German (DB) section of the trip would replace the SBB diner with a DB one (4024 or 4078).
Maerklin did not make very many couchette coaches in 24cm scale length. There were a few SNCB models (I4/I5) (4069, 4116, 4117, 4118, 4119, 4120, 40690) that could also be used for a night train (Bruxelles-Munich-Vienna, etc) that would have run with a sleeper from the international TEN pool.
