Dear fellow Members
I need a bit of help the a 3309 smoke unit wiring. Hi
I am fitting a 66031 delta decoder to my 3309 4-6-2 steam loco and I wondered if you could tell me where to solder the smoke wire to on the decoder.
Thank you
Regards

Hi Russell,

With a 66031 decoder you will need to connect the smoke unit directly to the pick up shoe. It will be powered continuously, but that is a limitation of the decoder you have.

Cheers.....

Hi Russell,

The 66031 has one switchable function which can be also used for the smoke - generator. But that function is not switched like usual on the control-pad. It is switched in a sequence with the direction:
Forward off - Backwards off- Forward on - Backwards on - Foward off-.... .

I attach the manual which also shows the wire-colours.

ba-66031-603712-0299-sd.pdf (3,876kb) downloaded 68 time(s).

Regards

Markus

Yes, the white wire. I thought about that, but operationally it would be a pain in the ass, so I personally would wire to the pick up shoe. I have locos that are wired that way from the factory eg BR24, BR85 and they work really well. Plus it reduces the load on the decoder.

Cheers...

Hi Guys
Thanks for the good info. A bit of a misprint on my part the loco is a 3390 so I assume the the same wiring of the smoke applies.
Regards
Russell
