Hello all you Marklin Maniacs.
During my latest alcohol fueled late night brainstorms, I thought it would be a good idea to bash an old beat up 3104 Lok into
Thomas The Tank Engine.
Besides being a fun, low budget project, It could have great entertainment value for younger visitors to my layout. I might even make it smoke.
After all, What's Thomas without smoke? But now whilst experiencing a moment of clarity I'm not so sure that I want to do it.
Perhaps a global outcry demanding such a revolutionary model would push me into the right direction.

To be or not to be? That is the question.LOL

Ah that would be too easy! Besides, I need the money for "real" LoksFlapper And it's probably made in China...Which is a No-No in my house.

No more available from Marklin since 2007 but some found on ebay.

I hear Hornby is to dropping Thomas range next year.

I think it's a great idea, Mike! The 3104 tank engine is cheap and replacements can readily be found on eBay.

Another idea might be to turn a 3087 or 3090 into "Duck"

Hi Mikey,

A Thomas engine is blue and has a face. That's enough to recognize it as "Thomas". Blue colour shouldn't be the problem. And the face could be 3D-printed and glued to the original body. : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:293591

I’ve been sitting on the fence watching this thread.
Since I’ve got Thomas and Percy and that’s all the loco’s made from Marklin, maybe I should modify another to make a friend.

Hi,

I thought the same. This is just a first sample, and as usual for first samples it still has some errors. A Thomas - body-shell for the 3104 - chassis to print at home. Just as a preview. But I think this looks already more like Thomas than the ugly Hornby - loco, sold in Märklin boxes.

When finished, I will publish the files.

Grief, there are so many more than when I was a kid ...

But I can see someone kitbashing the Marklin or Trix inspectors wagon into this.

There are so many more than when my kids were kids!

Is this just a way for the toy companies to make more money? The Rev. W Awdrey never wrote about so many, and I don't think these extra engines are mentioned in any book.

I prefer the original concept with Gordon, Edward, Henry etc, and I still hear it in my head voiced by the unmistakable Ringo Starr! Smile ThumpUp

and BTW, It's "Thomas the Tank Engine", Not "Thomas and Friends"!

Rant over! BigGrin

I believe the 'Thomas and Friends' was the series name when it went to the USA as the locals there didn't know what a 'tank engine' was.
