Hello,

I like to show my lastest builds of Vollmer kit 5731 'Stellwerk Moosbach' and Kibri kit 9487 'Stellwerk Marbach'.

The signal tower at Marbach am Neckar on the line 'Ludwigsburg - Backnang' in Baden-Württemberg (Germany) was the real-world basis for these Vollmer and Kibri models.

On the internet I found some sort of scale drawing where the tower was located on the Marbach rail yard, but I can't find the Marbach tower on google earth, so it's probably teared down years ago.
(I can find only 2 photos of the 1:1 Marbach tower, if someone knows about any photos or info, that would be absolutely great !).

Both kits were new items in 1961 and are still in the Vollmer-Viessmann and Kibri-Viessmann program today.

For me - as a Die-Hard 1960-70's kit enthusiast - the Kibri box looks great, with the huge Kibri printing on the side.

I built both kits straight out of the box, no weathering and no additional parts, although I was tempted to add a Faller signal box interior kit to the Vollmer model.
The Kibri kit does has an signal tower interior, but because the plastic Kibri windows aren't very transparent, you can hardly see it.

The fittings of the Vollmer parts are perfect, and of the Kibri kit good (but not great).

Although both kits have the same prototype, they look remarkably different.
The Kibri model is an almost 100% true copy, however Vollmer gave their own slightly more romantic interpretation to the kit.

The stairs of the Kibri kit consist of just 2 parts (I found this disappointing), while the stairs of Vollmer must be glued together from many fragile parts, with a much more realistic end result.

I like both models just as much and they will get a nice spot on my new under construction Trix Express layout.

Marco

Hi

Thanks Kweekalot very interesting review on models dating back on my first Märklin / Faller train (started in 1962)
At the time I was more interested by very modern design like the Lindental station (Faller B 99), the Helvetia building (Faller B 926) and an AMS slot car system thus totally missing the romantic charm of the Vollmer models you describe.
Cheers

Jean

Hi Marco,
Thanks for that very descriptive review, with the references to the real locations and uses.
That was a nice project to complete both models together.

I purchased the Marbach signal box ready made at a swap-meet, because it was so nicely proportioned, and it fits my layout perfectly in the correct space.

Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

I started a similar 'Marbach/Moosbach' topic on a German mrr forum and there someone showed a very similar 1970 kit from Pola; B-560 Signal tower 'Niedlingen'.
I thought it would be interesting to post it here too.

I saw this 1970s Pola kit #560 for only € 4,00, so why not build a 3rd. BigGrin

I suspect that style of signal box was built in many places in Germany as a standard design. Interesting to see that it has been produced by so many different model companies.
