I'm building a new layout, and I've decided to splash the cash on some Viessmann signals - purely because I can buy them one at a time from my local store (for about $5-10 more than online) instead of having to order bulk to make the best of international shipping.

With the help of my local train shop (who doesn't stock Marklin, boo!) I have built up the signals for entry to and exit from my station as well as the double multiplexers to control them. However the instruction manual for the multiplexer doesn't make it clear how to wire these things up for Marklin-Motorola digital, so I'm a wee bit stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the 4722 entry signal, the 4723 departure signal, and the 4720 distant signals with enough 52292 double multiplexers to go around. What I need help with is wiring the multiplexers to my Marklin CS2 (and eventually a CS3) and how to connect the multiplexers together. I am using these purely for aesthetics at the moment, as I don't want to bother with the extra wiring and signals needed to do a proper block system for the layout, so I don't need help with those aspects, just getting the signals to operate from the CS2/3.

Manuals for the signals can be found on: http://www.viessmann-modell.com/

and here is the manual for the 52292 multiplexer
519607-an-01-ml-VI_DOPPEL_MULTIPLEXER_de_en.pdf (2,496kb) downloaded 124 time(s).

Hi Alistairiancampbell

Looking at the 52292 multiplexer documentation (page 6 figure 3), it seems the connection to a CS2 et CS3 is fairly simple with only:
- the brown and red wires to connect
- the address to set on the switches ("Mausklavier")
- the multiplex signals to plug on the 52292. The latter will recognize the signal type automatically.

I am not sure what you mean by "connecting together". Each multiplexer is for 2 signals and you repeat the wiring for all the multiplexers you have.

Cheers

Jean

Hello,

You have to wire your 52292 as shown in fig. 3.
The programming of the 52292 is shown in chapter 5, section "programming the address in Maerklin Motorola mode".

I've used many of them in my (now dismantled) layout. That works perfectly.
I've used them in DCC mode, but it should be the same with motorola mode.
On my side, I had set the dip switches 1 to ON, and all others to OFF.

Have fun
Cheers

Merci Jean and Fabrice,

That clears it up, I'll have a try and get back if I have any more issues.

Do I need to plug the wires into a booster (60175) or can I put them straight into the CS2, if so where?

Thanks,

Alistair.

Hello,

The red and brown wires at the bottom of fig. 3 have to be connected to the "track" output of the CS2, on the same wires (red & brown).

Connecting them to a booster depends on if you have a dedicated booster for the driving of accessory or not. Generally, for large layouts it is a good idea. For instance my layout had more than 60 switches and 30 signals driven with a dedicated booster...
The consumption of the decoder is 85mA, so it's up to you to compute the sum of current drawn by all your accessories...

Have fun
Fabrice
