Hi All,

Can any one help by advising suitable locomotives that could be used to pull the train while it is in Germany?

Thanks in advance
Adrian

I'd say a E10.12 in corresponding colors or even a V200.

Jacques gave you the right information.

http://www.heinrich-hank...dung/1965_tee_00009s.htm
The tractive power is listed under 'bespannung'

The set includes the coaches that ran from Basel to Geneva and back. At Basel, coaches from Chur/Zurich and Chiasso were added to the consist for the trip north along with a number of coaches that ended there.
The train normally included sections that went to Hoek van Holland and Dortmund. Along the way, the train traded sections with the Rheinpfeil, with sections of both trains going to Amsterdam/Hoek v. Holland or Dortmund. To model the various German or Dutch sections of the run, you would need to add additional cars or modify the consist as marketed by Maerklin.

For 1965, this would have meant a mix of red/beige and blue/beige coaches, as seen here: https://www.maerklin.de/...e/details/article/43857/

Finallly a video for your pleasure. This train is still used today for special trips. I saw the train at the last Mätklin IMA days in Göppingen.

For the period your model is from it was the E 10.12

Märklin offered last year the Rheingold Tin Plate

https://www.maerklin.de/...te/details/article/40850

with the E 10.12 as the loco. I got that complete train.

Hello Adrian,

well I thought you should have some "pleasure-information" too, not only technical ones. This was my intention e.g. for the video.

But if you find anything about it a V 200 was pulling the Rheingold in that version in that period you got it (beige blue with the dome car), I will appreciate to hear from you. Because I doubt it that this ever happend. Also I found no source prooving this.

regards

TEEWolf

P.S.: I bought last year the Rheingold Tin Plate (40850) including the "coorect" loco E 10.12 (30390) and it is really a very nice train I like. Also Märklin offered only burning red ending lights and no interior lightning of all coaches.

The Rheingold segment with the ADumh and WRumh (from Geneva) would never have been pulled by a V200, as those coaches went to Dortmund. The Rheinpfeil ADumh and WRumh did make the run into Holland and would have been pulled by a V200 as described by Heinrich Hanke on his website. I believe that that segment would have included one coach from the Rheingold (Avumh) along with the coaches from Munich (Rheinpfeil).

1963: http://www.heinrich-hank...ildung/e3b_rheingold.htm
V200 Duisburg-Emmerich

1965: http://www.heinrich-hank...dung/1965_tee_00009s.htm
V200 Duisburg-Emmerich

1970: http://www.heinrich-hank...bildung/e4_rheingold.htm
Duisburg-Emmerich now electrified

Rheinpfeil 1970: http://www.heinrich-hank...ildung/e4_rheinpfeil.htm

I included the 1970 information because the train was still pulled by a green Re 4/4I in Switzerland. By that point, the coaches had all been repainted in the TEE red/beige livery. The matching Re 4/4I locomotive in TEE colours was introduced in 1972.

Here's a silly question. After Duisburg, the Stammzug of the Rheingold continued to Dortmund. Only one car from the original consist continued to Holland with coaches from the Rheinpfeil.
Was the Holland section called the Rheingold or the Rheinpfeil (or both) and what about the Dortmund section?

It got even more complicated later on, when one of the coaches was detached in Basel (southbound) and was joined to the TEE Roland to Chiasso and Milano.
Prior to the introduction of the Roland, the Chiasso coach and the coach that went Basel-Zuerich-Chur normally travelled as part of regular SBB trains, which did not add any more named trains to the mix.

It is too bad that Maerklin never released the fourth coach that should have come with the 42990 Rheingold Set. I added the Apumz from the 42991 to complete the 4 coach consist from Basel to Zurich.
A second 42991 allowed me to complete a 4 coach "Helvetia" set, leaving me with a spare bar car.
