Are there any alternatives to the 5625 turnout mechanism? I need at least ten and they are fairly expensive.

If you are indoors and like playing then there are servo based alternatives or universal motors like this

As ever its a balance of time, money and looks. The Marklin ones are tidy low profile units, most other solutions are bigger but could be modified for under baseboard installation. The other decision is analogue or digital control.

I have a similar project to think about in the near future. I occasionally take Gauge 1 to local exhibitions and having to get to turnouts is a pain.
