Cool

I just stumbled over this:

https://jalopnik.com/thr...y-hauntin-1823659965/amp

They can even be seen on Google Earth:

https://earth.google.com/web/@31.97371489,-110.54054872,1129.7202167a,327.92733744d,35y,0h,0t,0r/data=CkkaRxJBCiUweDg2ZDY2NTQxMGIyY2VkMmI6MHg3M2MzMmQzODRkMTZjNzE1GWLPQxJiHEBAIZJbk25Lu1vAKgZUdWNzb24YASAB

That's a lot of locomotives.

Per.

It's the perfect environment to store them in as well. On a side note, it's the same area desert where they have the aircraft boneyards, where they store airliners after they're removed from service, whether temporarily or permanently and used for parts.

I know.

In Denmark, we can't store anything made of steel outdoors without constant maintenance.

A few months ago, the Danish Railroad Museum even scrapped some of the old steam locomotives,
because they didn't find they had room for them any more.

As far as I remember, one was saved by a group of steam locomotive enthusiasts; but another was cut to pieces.

The same case in France, there is a TGV Eurostar in the stopping for 3 years. But he is not well maintained. The point coordination on Google maps is 50.378446,3.542678.

Interesting.
When I lived in the US, I did a lot of research on UP and their equipment management methods (Fascinating company, with a long term vision, and an incredible poise, believe me! And that's not just for railfans!)
Some of the engines seen in that footage are IMHO quite old (some at least over 25 years or more, even coming from mergers like the ones with MKT and SP) and as far as I could tell of a generation of fuel hungrier machines.
Quite a sight though, gives you a sense of comparison with RR in Europe for example Wink
Cheers
Jacques
