I am new to this website and look forward to learning much!! I received my first Marklin train when we were living in Germany in the 1960's - I still have it, and it runs GREAT.
I am working (finally!!) on putting a layout together, and am struggling with a 7186 turntable.

First, let me explain that the equipment I have is non-digital, and will probably remain that way - analog is fine.
With that being said, here is what the turntable is, and is not doing:

It generally hums when I first put power to it.
It has worked and rotated, but after a short use, it begins to quiet down while rotating, and stops often between tracks, with the motor still humming.
There are also times when I push the rotate button, and there is no noise or hum at all.

Here is what I have done thus far:
Oil the gears, and adjusted, and cleaned the brushes.

Any thoughts and recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Don,

Welcome to the forum.

I suggest two steps.

First, remove the bridge and clean the contacts under the bridge.

Second: Remove the house and observe the contact coloured blue and red. It can be adjusted by turning the blue screw. But only some degrees. Try in steps of quarter turns.

Dear Markus,
Thank you for your response!
I am travelling for my business so I won't be able to try this, but from my memory, I am not sure which screw is blue - could you please identify which one that is from the posted photo?

Danke!

Hi,

Look at the photo: I coloured two parts in blue and red to identify them. The part 78105 is blue. In reality the parts are not coloured.

Thanks, Markus.

I tried what you had suggested, but the motor still does not rotate. It does hum when I push the control buttons, but does not rotate. Would you have any other recommendations?

I do appreciate your patience and help!

Best regards,

Looks like your brushes don't make enough contact with the motor armature. I would try to push the brushes gently in with a screwdriver and see of the motor kicks into life, if it does you need to adjust the tension of the brush springs.

Hi Don,

In the next step I would remove the bridge from the plate. Clean up the contacts on both sides.

Markus

If removing the bridge be very very careful removing the circlip holding the bridge to the base plate . They usually shoot off in any direction quite a few feet , probably the best way is to lay a bed sheet down with a slight wall surrounding the turntable so that it will catch the clip in flight .
