Hi All! I want to convert a #3015 (Swiss Crocodile). The loco sports a directional “Swiss Lighting” scheme with three white lights in the driving direction and one white one for the rear (marked by the green dot in the sketch below), switching accordingly with direction. I want to use the F0 function directional lights output of the decoder to duplicate this behavior and have sketched a possible solution in the schematic. Driving forward the decoder would supply lights L1 to L4 through the grey wire while diodes D1 and D2 would protect lights L5 and L6. When in reverse, the yellow wire would supply lights L1 and L4 to L6 while diodes D3 and D4 protect lights L2 and L3. Does this look like a workable solution? And if so what type of diodes should I get (specs, type number)? I have a couple of 1N4004 diodes. Would they do? Something I can get at Radio Shack would be good. Thanks for any suggestion or comment. |

Yes, that arrangement will do fine..... However, as the gray and yellow wires switch on the negative supply instead of the positive, you will have to reverse all four diodes. As for the diodes, this is in no way a critical application. Just about any diode will do the job right (although not zener diodes). Your 1N4004 will do fine.

Here's the simpler HAG version that I have used recently: Luis

Thanks All!
Mikael, I will correct the diode orientation for the decoder polarity. Luis, waiting for the picture to show.

Thanks for the HAG schematic. Indeed should be easier. |
