While doing an inventory on my father-in-laws vintage Marklin collection, I came across a small box of these vintage plastic HO cars covered up in the back of a drawer. It included split window Volkswagens, 356 Porsches and other vehicles I can not identify. I have spent some time on-line but have not been able to find anything like them except a picture of a blue Porsche 356 in an Antique Price Guide that said one was sold at auction for $185. I know these are probably not Marklin they are part of my Marklin train collection and any help identifying/valuing them would be greatly appreciated.

They look like the sort of vehicles that were used as loads on wagons back in the 50s and 60s by Marklin. The filled in windows are typical of the vehicles used for that purpose on the flat wagons and car transporter wagons.

I don't know if they are made by Marklin, or made for Marklin by another company.

I think they might have been produced by Wiking, as suggested in the title of your question. If you do a Google search with the terms Wiking + Modellauto + unverglast (the last word stands for "glassless" or "without window glazing"), then you will find lots of these models, including pictures.

Hi,

First for the prototypes: In the first row you have two VOLKSWAGEN and two PORSCHE 356. In the second row I see two 1951 OPEL KAPITÄN (outer cars) and two DKW F89 MEISTERKLASSE (inner cars).
I have no idea who made them. But I'm sure they are neither made by MÄRKLIN nor by WIKING. They look like WIKING for the first view but they are not made as precise as WIKING - models and they are not marked. Usually WIKING- models are marked, also the MÄRKLIN -cars. These are old counterfeits. I have no idea about the commercial value. But the price of genuine WIKING models surely will not be reached.

To compare: WIKING DKW: http://www.wiking-datenb.../images/dkw/120-1-2.html
WIKING OPEL: http://www.wiking-datenb...el/kapitaen/100-1-1.html
WIKING PORSCHE: http://www.wiking-datenb...porsche/356/160-2-1.html

Regards

Markus

Hi,

I have some old cars too, but I know what they are. I think that our older Wink Swedish members can remember them too.

They are Swedish made by KABO Plast in Stockholm. Mine are from year 1960-61 as they have separate wheels. Those made in 1959
had integrated wheels to the car body. They came in cereal packages called Kalas Puffar.

Citroen, VW Beetle, MG, Volvo Duett, another Duett and Scania Vabis lorry.

Cheers
Åke
