I am looking to sell my SEH 800 (not sure what year it is) and noticed there is a small gem-like piece of red glass in each light cavity in one end of the roof and green glass in the other end of the roof front and rear light cavities. Did someone have to glue these into the locomotive roof light cavities and maybe these pieces of glass were sold by Marklin? Or did someone do this on their own and does this lower the value of the locomotive? I thought I would run this by the community to see if anyone else had seen anything like this.

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts.

Hi Jeff,

Nice work, but surely not done by Märklin. For someone who looks for an original example this surely lowers the value. But I would not mind about that. It looks nice.

Hello Jeff,
certainly not original, I never saw any M* lok with this extra, nice but not original,
different colors at different ends make no sence, because lok has no front,

Hi Jeff,

I'd say the previous owner was trying to represent American marker/classification lights. Sometimes I believe flags were used as well. Usually the colours meant as follows:

No classification lights: Normal scheduled train

White: Extra, unscheduled train

Green: Normally scheduled train, but another section follows

Red: Rear of train, usually placed on Caboose.

regards
Peter

I don't think factory. Also, I may be wrong but I think that is a 3013, bot the earlier SEH 800. (the lettering is confusing, but if I remember right the SEH only had the lights on one end or something like that)

Hi,

The locos with lights on only one side were SEW 800 (green) and SEWH 800 ( turquois). The SEH 800 (blue) and the SEF 800 (green) always had lights on both sides. The inscription of the SEH was never changed and also shown on the SEF. Also the last one delivered in the 1970s as a kit, had that inscription.

Regards

Markus
