My ST 800, which runs great going forward, is dead as a nail when I put it in reverse either with the transformer or manually. A couple of my observations:

Reverse contacts were dirty and I have cleaned them with an electrical contact cleaner
The locomotive gets full power in reverse and the lights are on, but motor is dead
The wires appear to be connected correctly and mostly from the factory
I understand there is a neutral between forward and reverse

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I would check the field-coil. The field-coil can be seen from the underside. It has three wires: One goes to the right brush, the others to the reversing unit. Check the resistance between the right brush and the two other wires which are soldered to the reversing-unit. It should be a few ohm.

Regards

Markus

Thanks for your interest Thom. At this point my layout is just a test track and a bunch of vintage Faller buildings on a pool table. I am transitioning my father in laws collection and to get an idea of what I am working with look at the listings for "I want to sell" dated 9/24 under Marklin HO analog layout for sale. It is still for sale !
