What's in der Weihnachtsmann's, Sinterklaas's, Père Noël's bag?

HO, HO, HO! It definitely fits here on our forum as most of us model in HO scale! (Let's hope Santa's not into Z,z,z,z,z,z, sleeping like every other year when he forgets about us!) So let the fun begin with the annual Christmas question, What You Really Want For Christmas This Year? For myself, besides 🌎 ✌️, I would like more C track pieces! How about a wide angle double slip and Santa how about an assortment of C track with concrete ties? Come on Father Christmas wishes do come true? Okay maybe I'm dreaming in Technecolor but I do believe in Sinterklaas! Regards, Michel

Thanks, Michel for that timely reminder that Christmas is around the corner! To be honest I haven't had time to think much about what I want. I'm retiring from work this week (!), my daughter announced her engagement a couple of weeks ago, it's my son's birthday today... Both my son and my daughter have booked flights to spend Christmas with us, so for me that is enough of a gift. Sometimes my son, who is also a model train enthusiast, gives me something train related for Christmas. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but if it's a pair of socks and a woolly hat I'll still appreciate it anyway! Season's greetings to you all! |
Ray
Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

Hi,
For me from me it is the 241. Hopefully it will arrive before then. Delivery to South Africa can take over three weeks.
Regards

This is my simplistic solution IMG_3229 by dralowid, on Flickr There are, of course, issues. Firstly there is the question of close focus. I understand that one can break the seal on the lens and twist it but this sounds haphazard. I will try with some old camera close up lenses that I have. Then what to video? Seems to me that running the camera on an inside track of two loops give one a chance to get close up to a train running on the outer track. And then...the question of the fairground scary ride. Pushed round, as above, the corners come as a vertiginous shock, it is a little better pulled behind the loco so that one sees the track receeding. Putting a small low wagon in front of the camera helps too in that it prepares the eye for what is about to happen. My next experiment will be to mount the camera at the back of the long wagon so that the other end is in view and the camera appears to 'turn last' ...maybe.... All the kit will need to move to another wagon. And then again...the camera really makes my old M track look awful, a bit like a colonial street railway in a long forgotten state. And finally? I don't know how to edit or cut movies yet...this really doesn't help!

This also has another advantage that it could then become possible to drop out of 'follow track' mode and remotely control the camera so it is possible to look sideways as you travel along the track. That is why some of the other modules are there, so I can sense bogie angle. How this is going to be done is yet to be determined! I plan on using an identical wagon to yours, so will have to have a play to see what I can do.

Funny you should say that, I have got an r/c servo sitting on the shelf waiting to be used exactly for this.
Despite nearly forty years of owning Citroen DS's with their swivelling lights I have yet to work how to do it though I think having it over the back bogie will help the look. I like the idea of controlling it independently and swivelling it around, as you call it, the 'follow track' mode gets a little monotonous after a few times round a small track!

Regards That gorgeous class 241 SNCF steamer is what I want from Sinterklaas as well! We will see if his sleigh makes it to my house by Christmas, or if I must wait just a little bit longer. |
Regards,
Jim
I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |
