Hi,

What's missing on nearly every model - railroad? No, not the wedding or the police-car. It's a toy-shop selling Märklin.

In the 1960s Märklin offered MÄRKLIN - sign in different sizes:

I tried to design them for H0 - buildings to print in 3D.

I made two versions. A larger one which can also be placed on roofs or porch-roofs. And a smaller one, mainly inteded for the wall above a shop-window.
Surely the files are scalable. But the spacing of the letters in different and adjusted for the size.

The files:

Smaller version, text 30mm, total length 39mm: https://dl.dropbox.com/s...vzmg/werbung-39-30mm.stl
Larger version, text 45mm, total length 54mm: https://dl.dropbox.com/s...bqv1/werbung-45-54mm.stl

Markus

Hi Åke,

If you or someone else don't have access to a printer, just write me a mail. I'm sure we find a solution.

Regards

Markus

Hi Åke,

Thank you for the picture.

A friend found a shop where these signs still exist:

It is in Berlin and can be also seen at Street View: https://www.google.de/maps/@52.5...CWN0w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Hi Markus, wow what an awesome looking shop, be cool to model that on a layout.

Do you know, are the outside signs on the facade illuminated in any way, ie... Neon?

If they are is there any way to get a nighttime or twilight photo showing them lit up? Cool

And... does this shop still operate a display layout inside?

MfG

Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes they are lit by Neon. I will try to a get night-picture from my Berlin contacts. I lived in Berlin for several years. But I've never been there. That was before internet, and I didn't even knew that it exists.

That would be great if your contact could. Wonder if we have any M-U members in Berlin?

I don't know if you get the TV series "American Pickers" but they go crazy over anything Neon, as do I, I just love it.

I reckon that an original "Märklin" neon sign would be about the most awesome item of Ephemera that I could ever hope to own, up there with a Wunderrad Drool

Hi Shannon,

I think you refer to "Spielwaren": That is German for "toys". The word consists of two parts: "Spiel" from the verb "spielen" means "to play", "Waren" are "goods". The word "Spielwaren" is a little bit outdated. Today "Spielzeug" is the more common term.

Now THAT’s a sight I haven’t seen in a few years! Berlin is where the long dormant train virus returned and has never left. There were plenty of shops that took in a lot of every pay check... and I was more than happy to contribute!

Ake, It looks very realistic, do you plan on having lighting above to light the sign, just in your photo the light from window seem to overpower the dark sign?

Blessings Shanny
