Hi all

I have one of the early #4151s; it runs really well, but one of the axle gears has split, so it "clicks" as it goes down the rails.

Does anyone have a spare axle/gear/wheel set they'd be willing to part with?

I know this isn't Marklin per se, but I thought I'd ask here anyway.

Thank you.

All model railroad questions are welcome, as usual... Wink Smile

Do you maybe have a detail picture, Roco spare part number or such to help us a bit more?

I see that the loco itself goes rather cheaply on ebay, so maybe a "spare part loco" from there would be an option?

Yes, a "spare part loco" is an option, but I thought I'd ask here first, since all I really need is part #90102...

PS: Here's a photo. I believe this is one of the (much) earlier models, as it does not have any flywheel(s). I like it because it runs well, has clear windows (which my later "215" does not have) and the lights are very bright. Hence, my interest in repairing such an older (1973) model...

Hi,

some axles can be found on ebay.de when typing "Ersatzteil Roco 215 Radsatz"
maybe it's the one ?

Best Regards

Thank you Joel for chiming in.

I checked that link; as of today, the only part available has a yellow gear; mine is black, so I'm not positive it would be the correct replacement.

Plus since I'm in the US, shipping costs are typically prohibitive for small parts. I am loath to buy an item for $5.00, but have to spend $10.00 or more on shipping.

Such is the price we pay for having international interests.... :) Will keep looking.

If you don't find the part, maybe you could regard the clicks as a feature rather than a defectBigGrin

It least I'll know when it's running, right?

As kind of a "PS" to this thread:

I was able to find suitable replacement parts (on eBay) from a Roco FA-1/2 B unit of similar vintage.

Am happy to report the 215 runs quieter, and I now have a "stash" of other parts should I need them. Smile

I'm glad you found the parts and solved the problem. My clicks feature suggestion was because some models offer rail-joint clicks in their sound repertoireBigGrin

You know, I had not thought of that; maybe I should put the cracked gear back in...BigGrin

Roco had quite a few problems with its cracked plastic gears or a loose shaft whereas the motor just spun around without the loco actually moving., a drop of superglue fixed it.

Hello John

I suppose that might work; except that the teeth on either side of the split are slightly spread apart, due to the split, and are not "equal" compared to the rest of that gear's teeth. So even if the glue will bond the gear to the axle, the gear mesh is still slightly off. I have seen this on many Roco models, as well as a few US Athearn diesels. I've had several Roco-built Atlas O scale locos, and everyone of them has had a split gear at some point. In fact, this is so common, Northwest Shortline has offered replacement gear/axle/wheel sets for years now.

FWIW, I've found the only "real" correction is gear replacement. Fortunately, what with eBay, etc., those parts can usually be found...

You can also try APC-Adams in Germany. Most small parts will ship as lettermail
