Yesterday I saw something burning and melting Woot upon one of my layout crossing.

It was a spring from a 4200-series 3 axles coaches,
used to press against the center axle to maintain the wheels on the tracks,
that had just fallen from the consist .

In did not find any spare part number for this

Does someone here know one ?

The axles are high enough for the spring not to be caught by something on the layout.

Only one possibility, the spring is falling by itself, maybe when getting old and losing its flexibility.

Hi Joel,

I have lost the springs on about half of my similar coaches. I find the coaches run just as well without them.

...So I'm not the only one with this trouble, Blink
I'm going to end up putting a glue drop on those who are still there.

I must admit, I have just done the test, that the coaches without springs are running just as well also for me...
..But not better BigGrin .

I was very surprised because two springs felt yesterday, and this never happened before...
Maybe with my new layout, I am running the consists for much time ...

Thank you Ray !

Best Regards
Joël

Hi Joël,

It must be searchable by Google. I collected the number from one of the various datasets which are around in the net in my personal database. My recording says:

Code:
76582 AXLE SPRING F4207-8-9 10/PK

If you try googling that you will find http://www.pallund.dk/spareparts/marklinparts.doc. Maybe I got the number from that document.

Regards

Markus

Hi Markus,

marklin 765820 gives some results in Google,
as "Marklin 765820 Axle Spring F4207-8-9"
but still no picture to show the shape or the size of this mysterious spring.

Thank you again for this useful information !

I will order it soon.

Best Regards
Joël

I would suggest just the tiniest drop of oil on the axle to lubricate where the spring rubs. I suspect what has happened is the friction between the axle and spring due to running dry has finally worn through the spring where it rubs on the axle, causing the spring to loose a turn which makes it loose enough to drop out (the spring in your picture looks like it is more than one piece). As for the amount of oil required it is so tiny that a drop on a piece of rag or cotton bud that you then use to wipe the axle will be plenty - what we used to call 'wipe on wipe off' when we needed such a small amount you couldn't see it.

Thank you for this idea ! I will try the oil drop...
Theses coaches were bought second hand, so may be the springs were already a bit damaged.
As you can see the corresponding parallel lines on the axles.

For the spring in three parts on the tracks, it burns in flames when touching the power line and the tracks, this doing that...

Best Regards
Joël
