Why would one make a model like this?

After all, I don't know of anything like it as a prototype Confused Confused Confused

Let alone pay anything like that for it ... Confused Confused Confused

There is a V200 "pimp my ride" type of movement that has been going on for a few years...
for example: http://alte-modellbahnen...d-wagen-umgestaltet.html

but 200€ for that... hmmm... time to start a business :)

Kids will be kids BigGrin ,

I know in the Stummi's forum there is a topic about different coulored locos with different logos and some of them are quite interesting but they're not altering the shape of the loco, seen one the other day with a double V 201 similar to a SBB Re 6/6 or BLS Ae 8/8,
personally I'm not in favour of these alterations.

I think this is totally different the creator doesn't change the shape of the loco merely changes the logo on the loco

Why not? I have managed acquire a few of these and they are all pretty beat up including my original one from the early '60s. My own was the speediest loco I had and suffered many derailments and a few falls from table to concrete floor. My little brother ten years later did even worse. So they all need a repaint at least. There are so many out there they are cheap and there is nothing special about them except that they run so well. A pure "restoration" is not worth the trouble, hence the artistic redo.

I agree... I'd liken that to all the old Marklin 3000 used to experiment on before trying things on a more expensive platform.I am not prototypically minded, so this doesn't bother me. And why not pimp things up on a model that is too far gone.
As mentioned before, the price is a surprise, we need to watch this seller, and see whether he can achieve this price again. After all, things are only worth what people are ready to pay for them.

The best I've seen using an old V200 was a "cut and shut" where they cut the centre section out and glued the two cabs together back to back...It looked very much like a VW van with two front ends!

I agree that sometimes a proper restoration is not worth doing on a beat-up old loco. These can then be prime candidates for a fun conversion!

I'm adding the auction images here because they will be soon lost from the auction.

And a reminder that if you are going to post an auction link, PLEASE, add at least one representative image of the item (save the image to your PC and then upload into the post)

Cool

And for what it's worth, I really like this creative idea, and for the amount of work that must have gone into it, the price is not bad. (Maybe it's because it's Yellow)

Yeah, it did turn out really well. I'd have appreciated a sanding of the body to make it smooth first, and some darkening inside the vents as well as some more coloration of the grills and the like, but it is a quite impressive job.
